Candele rides to a first victory at the International Bromont

Yann Candele + Carlotta
Bromont, July 22nd, 2011 – 2010 double champion Yann Candele, gives a top notch performance in the first FEI event at the International Bromont.

Candele, who won both the World Cup qualifier and the Grand Prix last year, took the lead over 30 participants of the 1m50 Open Jumper class, on his mare Carlotta with 2 clear rounds in the fastest time.

The course, designed by Venezualan Lepoldo Palacios, was attractive, according to Yann Candele, despite its riding technical difficulties. The sixth fence, an imposing obstacle, cost many riders a chance to participate in the jump-off.

A total of 10 riders made it to the jump-off, including St-Lazare rider Angela Covert-Lawrence who took a respectable fourth place on her mount Utan.

‘I am very happy with Carlotta’s performance’ confided Candele before adding, ‘she is a young mare with little experience’. Candele, who plans to ride Carlotta again in the World Cup qualifier BonjourQuébec.com, refuses to see Friday’s victory as a good omen for Sunday’s competition, concluding, ‘We take it one step at a time’.

A young medalist
Christina MacDougall
Immediately following the 1m50 Open class, Canadian young riders were invited to participate in the CET (Canadian Equestrian Team) Medal, an event aiming to develop the skills and potential of young riders.

The CET Medal class, sponsored by Burkman Capital, is an equitation class in two phases, judged both over fence and on the flat.  Therefore, it is an event where the rider’s style, skills and equitation are being tested.

This event allowed young rider Christina MacDougall to get closer to fulfilling her dream of competing in the CET Medal finals at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto.

The International Bromont, with its novel attractions and revised programming, is eagerly awaiting visitors for two weeks of unequalled competitions in Quebec.

International Bromont, the bar is high! This 36th edition will take place at the Bromont Equestrian Olympic Park. $10 per person and free for children under 12. For more information: www.internationalbromont.org.
